Young couple looking for nice room

We are a young couple coming to New York from Ireland to work in a family members restaurant for 3 months. We are both full time mature students (biochemistry and sports and exercise science) as well as working full-time).
We are looking for a room that has or will fit a double bed. We probably won't be at home much as we want to see as much as we can on our days off work. We are both into our fitness and health but we also like to have the odd fun night out - dinner/cocktails/dancing, although not very often.
It would be ideal to find room in a clean property with a person or people that are open and friendly as we love to make new friends (a bit cheesy :/ :D but true)
