Mature cultured native NYer seeking room

Hi, I'm Maura, a recently divorced woman looking to relocate to NYC as I pursue wrapping up my M. A. and working in the public history/museum field. I'm financially independent, healthy and responsible.

A bit about me: I love to research and spend a lot of downtime on the internet, am "house broken" (neat, clean, respect the needs of people with whom I share space, like to pitch in and do my share, don't blast music or TV, etc.)

Socially I'm fairly diverse; I prefer smallish gatherings, be they out or at home, that promote lively talk and good times with old and new friends - not into bars/clubs/raucous house parties. My work has traditionally required a heavy slate of quasi-social weekend/after work obligations, so being at home puttering, reading or cooking can sometimes feel like bliss. I don't drink or drug, myself, but am a firm believer in live and let live as long as things don't get out of hand.

I am a native New Yorker who has many good friends and family here in NYC, has lived in other U. S. cities and abroad, speaks bad French, dabbles in learning new ethnic cuisines and will happily grow my own veggies/herbs/flowers when conditions allow.

Post-divorce I am a happy, positive, drama-free person who would prefer the same in a roommate. My sense of humor leans toward the irreverent, I'm pretty passionate about politics (especially lately), and find it generally better (for me) to laugh than shake a fist.

I've got a car that I may or may not keep, depending on parking, and a storage unit of beautiful mid-century modern and 19th-C. antiques, which can stay put or help fill in the share, as desired/needed.

It's no easy thing to quantify oneself on an e-form, so I liberally encourage any prospective roommate to follow up with detailed questions for me and offer a bit more information about her own hopes and expectations for a harmonious share.
