Looking to sublease a room

Our story is pretty lengthy. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read.
My wife and I are looking to rent a room, preferably in the San Gabriel Valley, but remain open as far as location. We have been essentially homeless for a little over 2 months and have experienced living in separate housing arrangements, staying in shelters and sleeping on a friends couch. We both have fulltime jobs, but because of our less than ideal credit score, we have been denied rental units we've applied to. I recently got approved for a rent assistance program through SSI, where they assist in paying $545 towards our rent monthly, but haven't found a landlord willing to fill the necessary paperwork and rent/sublease a room. We would preferably like to rent a private room and bathroom and, if possible, a private entrance(not required).
