Room for Lease Takeover, LGBTQIA+ Friendly Space

Room available for lease takeover starting April 1st (must sign renewal w/ me for one year lease starting May 1st).

Room is $999 per month, plus shared utilities (electricity/internet). Move-in requires first month rent + $999 security deposit.

Cat and dog in apartment. Open to one more cat, if you have one, but no more dogs.

The apartment is in the Bronx, east of Bronx Park and south of Gun Hill Rd. It is 0.4 miles from the Gun Hill 2 & 5 stop (with elevator), and 0.3 miles from the Burke Ave stop (no elevator). It’s a 5th floor 2-bedroom apartment with a patio, where my current roommate and I have kept a flower garden in the non-winter months. The room available is the smaller bedroom in the unit, at 11.5’ x 7.5’. The door to the patio is in this bedroom. The bedroom does not have a closet…there is an optional wardrobe in the room that you can keep, if you like, though it is missing the middle door (maybe a clever curtain installation would work?). The room fits a full size bed, a wardrobe, a small desk, and small bookcases. You are free to hang whatever shelves, artwork, etc. that you want to hang (as long as it gets patched up when it’s time to move out). The ceiling is high enough that a loft bed might be really cool in this room, if that’s of interest.

The building has an elevator and laundry, as well as covered and non-covered parking spots available for an additional fee ($125 non-covered, $150 covered). Water/heat is included in the rent, and the building is enrolled in an energy efficiency program that keeps electricity down to $25-50 a month for the unit, even in the summer months. Internet and electricity would be split. Optimum may increase internet in May to about $40 per person, but it is currently around $20. If you have a hack for that, count me in.

About me: I’m a 37yo grad student studying Dance/Movement Therapy at Sarah Lawrence, and I’m queer/non-binary with pronouns they/them (despite the gender this app made me select). I have a sweet border collie dog named Nyx, and I have a sociable/chill tortoiseshell cat named Aries. When I’m not at school, writing papers, or working as a barista, I enjoy gardening, dancing, walking/playing with my dog, and generally just chilling as much as possible in my free time. I’m happy to hang out with roommates in shared spaces or just do my own thing—whatever suits. I prepare food, but not a lot of what I do in the kitchen can be called legit cooking. I fully support all cooking or non-cooking ventures. Also, I am super sensitive to the fact that the door to the patio is in my roommate’s space, but I do hope that we can work out a way for me to continue gardening and hanging out outside when it’s not intrusive. Big plus if you like gardening, as well!
