Seeking Short Term Roommate for West Harlem Home

Seeking a roommate for our Upper Manhattan Apartment, move in Sept 1 (flexible). Please note- we will not be taking inquiries until August 1st!

Location: 137th Street and Riverside. On the same block as the 137th Street stop on the 1 train, and a short walk from the B/C at 135th street.

Our apartment: A modern 4 bedroom 2 bathroom with a large open living room/kitchen (with dishwasher). Corner unit with a view of the river. Currently three rooms are occupied, with one available for rent. Room for rent is a 10 x 12 room with a large closet (by NYC standards) and a south facing window. It is furnished with a queen bed (new Casper mattress) and a desk with chair. Laundry in the basement, bike storage, additional laundry and a gym and lounge in the building next door. There are two full baths in the apartment.

Logistics and Cost: Our lease goes until July 31st, 2023. We're open to a short term, or month to month. No security deposit necessary, just sign a sublet agreement. $1200 a month includes utilities and internet. We (the leaseholders) cover the cost of weekly cleaning.

Us: David (he/him) and Carlyn (they/them) are the leaseholders and have been living the the apartment for four years and eight years, respectively. We share a room. David is a nurse and Carlyn works in social services. David is travel nursing and will be living primarily in DC through early 2023, but will occasionally visit. Carlyn commutes back and forth from Albany for work, spending a couple nights a week there, and occasionally works from home during the day. We're both queer, in our mid thirties, into cooking, outdoor/athletic activities, leftist politics. We're communal in nature (particularly food) but respect everyone's space. We have a small to medium 28 lb dog named Buko. We're nonsmokers, social drinkers.

Our other roommates are Kiki (she/her) an artist and nanny and Shondel (she/her) who works in HR. They're both wonderful humans! Both prefer to primarily spend time in their rooms, Shondel works from home and Kiki works outside the home.

We all share household supplies like toilet paper and soap, and while we generally shop and cook for ourselves we often share meals and supplies. We can create a dedicated space in the fridge for your stuff that won’t be touched if you prefer.

Pets: we have a 28-lb mix pittie-aussie (although she looks like a border collie) named Buko. She’s friendly and loves people, so dog lovers preferred. We’re very open to another dog (meet and greet required first to make sure they get along), especially if you’re open to occasionally swapping dog walks during the day!

COVID safety: Pre-COVID we enjoyed hosting friends for dinners and occasional parties. During COVID-19 David and Carlyn and Kiki are essential workers, so we want to make sure roommates moving in are comfortable with that. Travel nurses and other healthcare professionals absolutely welcome! We're trying to be careful about risks otherwise. Visitors are totally fine, but we always just notify the other roommates (unless its just a very short visit). We are all triple vaxxed and require you to be as well.

You: No tobacco smoker. LBGTQ+ friendly and anti-racist a must. Prefer laid back, communal attitude, respectful of personal space, committed to keeping common spaces clean and comfortable for all. Open and honest communication is a high priority.
