Description
Hello!
I'm looking for a new roommate for the 2nd bedroom in my apartment. Ideally, I'm looking for someone long-term, but I'm open to long or short-term with a minimum stay of 3 months. The rent is $1320/month with utilities included. If you're WFH then utilities will need to be adjusted. I'd like to find someone for a June 15th move in or sooner.
The apartment/Room:
The apartment is pretty barren right now, so please imagine it with art on the walls, shelves, and a plant or two! The apartment is located in a brownstone on the 4th floor of a walkup near Marcy and Macon St. It is a 3-5 min. walk to the Nostrand A/C, and only 20 mins. to Manhattan. The neighborhood has tons of restaurants, trendy coffee shops, gyms, grocery stores, and bars at your disposal! Your room has one big window that overlooks the backyard of the apartment. This means that you get soft light throughout the day, and your room stays significantly cooler and less humid during the summer months. The room is roughly 8ft on the short sides, 16ft on the side with the door to the room, and 15ft on the other. My last roommate was able to comfortably fit a queen bed, a table with chairs, a small desk, an accent chair, an Ikea Hovet mirror, and a dresser. The landlord is very responsive, nice, and will take care of any issues in a timely manner, but things are a little DIY (i. e. slightly uneven tiles).
You:
I'm looking for someone who is clean, kind, considerate, and values good and open communication. Ideally, someone mid-twenties to mid-thirties. I want someone who uses the apartment as a peaceful place to relax and recharge, and generally lives their social life outside of the apartment. Of course, the occasional friend or get together is cool, but a heads up is appreciated & expected. I currently WFH, so I would prefer someone who goes to work most days, but it's not a deal breaker. I would love to find someone that I can have a friendly relationship with where we can get dinner & drinks or watch a movie, but has an independent life of their own.
**Dealbreakers**
You must love cats. You must be clean. I have a 9 yr old cat who is a little dumb, a little scared, and very sweet. If a stuffed animal with anxiety came to life you'd have Marci. He is part Maine Coon so he is pretty vocal/talkative, but most of the time he's either sleeping or an inch away from wherever I'm at. Being clean is super important because he has pica, and will try to eat anything and everything that can kill him. This means that if you drop or spill something you pick it up, sweep it up, or wipe it up, and you don't leave trash, food, plastic, or anything mouth sized in the common spaces, etc. Basically, just pick up after yourself. I'm instinctively a pretty clean person because of how I grew up, and I've had him for 9 yrs so it's second nature to me at this point. I completely understand that it can be pretty annoying if that level of cleanliness isn't something you already practice, but I'd like to keep him alive as long as I possibly can!
Me:
I'm originally from Missouri, and moved to NYC in 2018. I have my BFA in graphic design, and have been freelancing since 2021. I love anything food related, art, reading, going to museums, park dates, wandering the city, going to the movies (MoviePass anyone?), and listening to podcasts or watching videos in bed with my cat for a night in.
Requirements:
-1 months rent and security deposit before move in
-Tenant agreement/lease
-If you do sign onto the lease then proof of income, and a credit/background check will also be required for the landlord.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask! And if you read all of this, please tell me what a perfect weekend looks like to you. :)
